With long lineups at lunchtime, Jimmy’s enjoys a bit of a cult following thanks to its big shawarma sandwiches (available in three sizes with lamb, chicken or beef) and even bigger shawarma platters that come with rice, toasted pita and a choice of salad or dip (the garlicky Lebanese bean salad is always a good choice).

Tazza Deli

221 11 St Ne, Calgary AB T2E 4N3

In Arabic, “tazza” means “freshness,” and this restaurant owned by the family that runs the Bridgeland Market across the street, lives up to its name. Customers choose the fresh vegetables that go on their shawarma sandwiches, and the platters come with two side choices. There’s also a shawarma salad for those who want all the goods, but served in a bowl.

House Of Kabab

The restaurant is a little rough around the edges, but House of Kabob serves up some top-notch Persian cuisine. The chicken and beef shawarma sandwiches and platters are tasty and well priced, and, as the restaurant’s name implies, the menu also features several succulent kabob sandwiches and platters.
